1. Southern Black Widow: This is the most common spider of the widow family. This spider features a black color all over it’s body including it’s legs. This spider is known for it’s bright red “hour glass” marking on it’s body. This dangerous spider can be found anywhere in Florida.

2. Brown Widow: This spider can be various colors ranging from white to black. It is typically found in a medium brown tone. The leg segments are banded, with one half of each segment lighter in color than the other half. The back often has a row of white spots (rarely orange or light blue), and there are a few white stripes on each side. Dark individuals lack these markings and are difficult to distinguish from black widows. If an eggsac is present, this is the best identifying characteristic. Brown widow eggsacs are tan, spherical, and have many small tufts of silk sticking out from them. They resemble a ‘sandspur.’ The other widows make white, smooth eggsacs that tend to be pear-shaped. The brown widow is an extremely timid spider which has rarely been reported to bite. However, it is an introduced species and is the most human-adapted of the species occurring in Florida.

It’s a diner’s worst nightmare. Sitting down to a meal with your friends and family members and seeing an insect or rodent run across the floor. Pests such as insects and rodents bring germs and diseases into restaurants which is unsanitary and quite unattractive. Unfortunately, in South Florida, it is quite difficult to keep pests out of your business. This issue is keeping many restaurant owners on their toes trying to prevent insects and rodents from destroying their culinary reputation.

A-Z Advice: One of the hardest insects to control in food establishments is the cockroach. These insects are active
when and where it is dark. When it is light, cockroaches hide in dark recesses between and under equipment, under sinks, in floor drains, etc. Because these areas generally cannot be properly cleaned, these insects come in contact with considerable filth and bacteria.

Many disorders and diseases can be traced to tick bites, including

1) dermatosis, or inflammation, itching and swelling at the site of the bite

2) envenomization, or inoculation of toxic fluids

3) exsanguination, or anemia resulting from the loss of large amounts of blood because of a severe tick infestation.

Ticks are well known in South Florida due to the tropical heat and the lush, tall grass. In order to protect your family and pets from these dangerous insects, contact A to Z Environmental today. A to Z Environmental also specializes in removing:

A to Z Environmental Note: This blog is purely informational! Catching a rat without professional help is highly dangerous and not recommended. Residential pest control is strongly recommended Rodents and rats carry many diseases and are unsafe to handle without professionals.

Believe it or not, but small creatures, such as rats and rodents, are incredibly intelligent creatures. If you have found one in your house, they might leave you stumped when trying to capture them!

First of all, rats are very wary creatures. They are extremely unsure of their new surroundings. If they happen to wander into your residence they will use utmost care when exploring their new environment. Rats, even when starving, will avoid new food and water to make sure that they do not harm themselves. Rats will approach any new food source with caution, often tasting only a small sample to see if it can be safely digested. Knowing this information, you need to know how to pre-bait your traps.

To instantly know if there is a rat in your house, you should look for fresh rodent droppings. Generally, they will be found under a cluttered area. If you are attempting to catch this rodent on your own, ut some fresh, clean food on the trigger mechanism, but do not set the trap to go off. I highly recommend peanut butter. Then, replace all the clutter as you originally found it.

The next day return to see if any of the food has been eaten and look for fresh rodent droppings. Don’t despair if you find fresh droppings, but none of the food has been eaten. Remove the old food and replace it with fresh. Rodents will only eat fresh, clean food.

A to Z Environmental Services has the skills to effectively remove rodents from:

Aside from hiring professional Ficus Whitefly Pest Control, the current recommended solution is to drench the soil around the base of the tree or hedge with a product that contains a neonicotinoid compound. If done properly, these products should allow sufficient control of the whitefly for 4-8 months (or perhaps longer) depending on the size of the tree or shrub. It is advisable to monitor your plants 3 months after application for the presence of live nymphs. Foliar sprays can also be applied to treat “hot spots” or get quick knockdown in addition to the soil applications. Products that can be considered for foliar applications are listed in the next section (Control in the Nursery), but it is important to only use those products that are allowed in the landscape. Also, the products (neonicotinoids) listed in the below table can also be used as a spray but it not recommended that you use both – Soil application will give the longest control period.

Pest control is the regulation of a species defined as a pest. This is generally because it is believed to be important to a person’s health, the ecology or the economy. Pest control is at least as old as agriculture, as there has always been a need to keep crops free from pests. In order to maximize food production, it is advantageous to protect crops from competing species of plants, as well as from herbivores competing with humans. The conventional approach was probably the first to be employed, since it is comparatively easy to destroy weeds by burning them or plowing them under, and to kill larger competing herbivores, such as crows and other birds eating seeds. Procedures and techniques such as crop rotation, companion planting (also known as intercropping or mixed cropping), and the selective breeding of pest-resistant cultivars have a long history. Many pests have only become a problem because of the direct actions of humans. Modifying these actions can often substantially reduce the pest problem. In the USA, raccoons caused a nuisance by tearing open refuse sacks. Many householders introduced bins with locking lids, which deterred the raccoons from visiting. House flies tend to accumulate wherever there is human activity and is virtually a global phenomenon, especially where food or food waste is exposed. Similarly, seagulls have become pests at many seaside resorts. Tourists would often feed the birds with scraps of fish and chips, and before long, the birds would become dependent on this food source and act aggressively towards humans.

A to Z Environmental Services specializes in ridding your home from pests such as:

Note: Residential pest control is highly recommended with catching rodents such as rats. This blog is purely informational!

When you think of a smart creature, you definitely don’t think of rats. However, rats are extremely intelligent! This is why catching rodents is no easy task!

To begin, you should know that rats are very unsure of new surroundings. Once they wonder into your residence they will use utmost care when exploring their new environment.

Residential pest control is your number one option for trapping rodents that have been spotted in your house. In order to be sure that your home is 100% clean – call your local pest control for more information!

Residential Pest Control

Found in almost 90% of the United States, cockroaches are thought to have been brought to North America from tropical Africa via slave ships. There is virtually no difference between cockroaches and palmetto bugs. In fact, cockroaches are often known as:

Cockroach

Palmetto Bug

Croton

Waterbug

Featuring a reddish-brown hue, palmetto bugs are considered to be large insects – sometimes bigger than 1.5 inches in length! Many species are winged, however not many palmetto bugs can actually fly. There is no difference in size between male and female cockroaches and both have a pair of cerci at the tip of the abdomen, although only males have styli.

Cockroaches consume mostly organic matter but will eat almost anything, including paper products. These insects are a huge problem in South Florida, whtere the tropical weather is dominant 95% of the year. They are commonly found in dark, moist areas such as basements, floor drains, bathtubs and sewers. Outdoors, they are found in yards, woodpiles, hollow trees and mulch.

A to Z Environmental Services recommends their services if you live in South Florida and have discovered a cockroach infestation.
